Rabbi Meir Bruk and his son Simcha, both natives of Kyiv now living in New York, share affection for Ukraine, where they were born and raised, and support in many ways its struggle for democracy and peace. Rabbi Bruk, 51, who since 2004 has served as the head of a Russian-speaking Jewish community based at the Jewish Center of Brighton Beach, is the author of a number of thoughtful articles exploring the potential and perspectives of Ukraine, especially in the context of the Ukrainian-Jewish relationship.
